Frequent Questions

Q&A

Do I need an appointment?

Yes, here at Alice May we run on an appointment-only basis. We advise making your appointments well in advance. Try a weekday slot for a little extra time as Saturday appointments are very popular and quite busy. You can make your appointment online BOOK HERE or you can phone or email us at (01) 2950006 / info@alicemay.ie. Although if you call in and we can see you, we will do our best to assist you.

How long will my appointment be?

Your appointment will be 1 hour. Here at Alice May, we want to make sure your time with us is relaxed and productive. We are experts at making every minute of your appointment count so don’t worry, this will be plenty of time.

How many times can I visit Alice May?

There are no restrictions here. We realise that choosing your dress may take more than one visit, after all, it will be one of the most important dress decisions you will make and we understand this.

Who should I bring to my appointment?

We would ask that you don’t bring an army to your appointment. While lots of views are greatly valued you need your own headspace. In the end, it is your decision, you want a gown that looks and feels fantastic and although multiple opinions are important it is YOUR opinion that matters most.

What should I bring to my appointment?

There are four important things a bride should bring along to her appointment. Firstly we encourage you to bring along pictures of dresses that you already may have seen so we can get an idea of what style and shapes you like. We will have loads of suggestions but the pictures can work well as a starting point. Secondly heels – a preferable heel height that you are considering for the day, seem-less underwear (nude would be best) and a well fitted strapless bra. Lastly we ask that no fake tan is worn when you come to see us. You will appreciate this when you see how clean and well-presented our samples are!

How quickly can I get a bridal gown?

It can take anywhere from 6 – 8 months after we have placed the order. We also like to have 6 weeks to allow for fittings and extra tweaks and make sure you are 100% happy. However, if your time frame is shorter than this that is not a problem. Most designers can offer a ‘Rush Order’ but there will be an extra charge for this. Don’t panic, call us and we can talk you through which designers offer this service.

How much is the deposit?

We will ask for a 50% deposit. Chilled bubbles will arrive for you and your helpers to toast this exciting moment!! The balance of the gown is due once your dress arrives in for your first fitting. First fitting is generally 6-8 weeks prior to your wedding date.

How many fittings will I need?

In most cases, two fitting appointments will be needed. Alterations differ from gown to gown and person to person so we will discuss this on a one to one basis. We do have a scale of charges so we will be able to give you an idea of this cost.
